单单为"乱说无罪，大炮有李"编制音效和填改歌词，都已经让我日夜忙碌了将近两个月。在6月14日中午，我终于松了一口气。李国煌大哥的脱口秀终于大功告成，圆满结束。4天里5场近爆满的show,真的让我体会到何谓台上一分钟，台下十年工。无论评语好坏，大火儿的多少血汗只有当事人能体会。国煌大哥说得对 --- "好的我们感谢您，我们会继续加油；不好的我们一样感谢您，我们会继续进步。"

MAY, I paused for a while ...

Was talking about chinese painting, children's art and cartooning, as well as some theatre stuff with some masters, teachers and experts from the related field. One funny thing, all of them highlighted about the important of the usage of SPACE ... !

It is coming to the end of the month. MAY, isn't a busy month. I managed to catch some good moments to be with my family, to get some rest and to think of what I have done, and how to move forward. MAY, I paused for a while ...

MAY, I am so glad to see Vincent leading RazzlePlay (INDIE Chinese Rock Band - www.razzleplay.com) to hold 4 performance and autograph sessions at shopping malls. A couple of friends have launched their INDIE/D.I.Y album as well - Mathew (www.matthewanddorcas.com), Lizz and DoubleVoices. Few of my friends are contemplating on doing an EP and one has just started her recording. Just as what is reported on MyPaper under the interview section of ex-INDIE Artiste Bevlyn Khoo (www.bevlynkhoo.com), it was reported that passionate people with music dreams have been following the trend of producing their music albums in Singapore. And in the report, there is a short note to comment on D.I.Y and INDIE and that D.I.Y should not be conveniently calling themselves INDIE. Well, D.I.Y and INDIE, who is what and what is what, I think most importantly we should be clear what we want and where we are heading.

So much has been said, no matter how clear we are, Chinese INDIE AND D.I.Y Artistes/Bands really need to move on with courage, determination, perseverence and faith to promote their albums. I always tell this advice that DO NOT WASTE YOUR ALBUM, make full use of your product to work things out for you. Create awareness, gather your support & resources and create sales opportunity as much as possible. SKY IS THE LIMIT.

Pause for a while and establish your vision...

MAY, I finally attended the COMPASS Annual Dinner as an INDIE Singer-Songwriter (which I have dreamt about more than a decades ago). Met many old old friends who are still pursuing their passion in the music industry. Friends, just make sure you register your chance to attend the dinner. The food is good, the performance is inspiring and the whole atmosphere is rather encouraging.

I paused for a while and I took a deep breathe of the air around the COMPASS Dinner. I smelt good energy.

MAY, I also paused for a while to plan, plan and plan ... But wait, I'm always reminded by a mentor, don't just plan, action is more important. You can't expect everything to fall in place nicely most of the time. But trust the baby steps ... isn't this how we have started to learn to walk? ... and well ... falling is a process in learning to walk ... but there is always a space for you to pick up again, to take a breath again, to continue your walk as long as you see far and not give up ...

The Tortise, The Rabbit and The Horse ...

A lot of time in our life, we hold different views on certain things. It is completely normal and nothing to yell about.

However, a lot of time, when we feel that our views have been insulted, challenged or not appreciated, we found ourselves caught in building up walls of defence and guarding our fort.

And to win our game, we start to advise opponents to let down guard, which in fact we ourselves have already unconsciously constructed our line of defence.

Only at the end of the day, when emotions allow some form of calmness and senses to penetrate, we begin to realise that the ultimate objective of our view is actually for the good of the situation, and not for stirring up the whole chunk of defence mode.

So who can be the humble one to take a step back first and said hey let's not talk ego, let's talk real. The real thing in LIFE is --- no view of two equals. We just have to learn to accept and make things work round our different views.

I have a story to tell:

An old Torstise said,"I can run fast." An old Rabbit said,"I can run slow." An old horse said,"Take care of your health."


What said has been said. What's done has been done. Don't take it too hard and Don't push it too hard either.

Being able to be part of Singapore Entertainment Awards 2009 is definitely an important milestone in my life and music career. It teaches me a lot about friendship, about how much could be done if people are willing to work together and about how important support from significant others are so important. These people are our GREATEST awards in life.
She is the BEST award in my life :)

Some thoughts ...

I was talking to my friend about ageing population in Singapore.

One solutions to fill the gap between the young and the old is to "import" foreigners. Hopefully, these foreigners could help to stabilize and keep our economic structure and various systems in pace before our young pillars could mature to take over. Another solution is to extend the working lifespan of the seniors.

Meanwhile, the responsibility for upbringing our young pillars still lie in the hand of modern generation. The seniors may have their wisdom in shaping the policy and systems in how the society should run, it always differ when it goes to the level where people are actually doing it. To think and to do is always a world of difference. The seniors have to be able to understand the world of our juniors, not just base on research, hear-say or collective information.

2 days ago, news of ministry to have 3000 plus job opportunities in the educational field in 2009 instead of the initial 1000 plus really got me worried. Does it mean that more senior teachers have gone into retirement OR have the young generation given up teaching as a profession over the years OR is it pure indication that more young babies are now going to schools? The ministry has promised no pay-cut but more investment into educational facilities. My other concern is what is the job scope of teachers, who are we ready to employ into teaching profession?

Yes, you should get a job when you need the money. But some job needs more than just responsiblity. Does Singapore allow us space in our life to love and care for others? Teachers need love in order to love the children. Parents need to love the kids so that the kids know how to love the teachers and other kids. Parents need to love the school and the school need to love the parents too.

We are experts of our own world and everyone needs to see that and respect that. No one is superior than anyone. Yes, the economy may be bad but it's the people (including the government ... I mean government is humans too!) to fill in what is lacking in between the young and old --- I reckon it's LOVE !!! (not just responsibility, not just money).

People in Singapore, I like to dedicate this song "Wonderful Love" (Click the player on your LEFT) to all of you in the new year 2009. LIFE still goes on, regardless the economy is good or bad. Most importantly, hold on to your belief in LIFE and have faith in what you are doing. Keep to your direction !!! All the BEST !!!

The Parent - The Child - The Time

3 years ago, I made a speech to a big crowd of parents. I said,

"When your child was just a baby and was taking every little step to learn to grip, crawl, stand and walk, parents always encouraged them not to afraid to fall and praised them for every little progress they have made. However, when the child started trying to experiment more and more stuff and eventually getting smarter and smarter, unconsciously, words of praise and encouragement were rarely used. This the stage at which parents started to see that an angel has turned monster and parents started to feel that controlling, scolding and suppressing could help to stop the child from behaving inappropriately. This is the time parents started using words like 'naughty', 'I ask police catch you', 'I cane you', 'No this no that' ... etc .... Parents are then badly blinded by the child's behaviour that they seems to have forgotten that the baby is growing up, yet the baby still needs love, praise and encouragement to better themselves. And not words like 'police', 'cane', 'boys' home' ' girls' home' ... etc etc ...

Everyone learn differently and everyone makes mistake. And yes, maybe some really needs the caning and institution at the end of the day. But one formula in common that all human beings can never deny which motivate our life ... HOPE, CARE AND CONCERN, GUIDANCE !

Neither An Angel or A Monster is born to be like that ... A Monster given a chance, with one's patience and nurturing, could do great things. Likewise, A Angel, who is left to rot, rots in no time.

So, my dear parents, continue your good work. With the simple intention you have harboured while bearing the child 9-10 months, continue with the kind intention. As such, any problem will be a happy problem and any bad behaviour will be an opportunity to better oneself - the parent and the child.

And and .. wait wait ... 3 years now I have one other point ...

Most of the time, people are not clear what they are disappointed at and frustrated at before they give up. A lot of time, parents don't realise that what they have given up is not the child but the time. They simply equate CHILD to TIME. Coz maybe, this is what the society is about now. Many things, issues, etc etc etc have become an Equation of Time. I guess this has made work a lot easier. However, to think that giving up on the child coz he/she can't meet up with expectation ON TIME??!!! It's kinda crazy lor. But maybe, maybe, ... this is just a ... ermm ... perhaps ... my own Hypothesis !!! Maybe ...

once given a talk to a group of students from poly about gangsterism a couple of years back, mentioning that I do not like the idea of generalising gangsters and labelling of gangsters.
a foreigner lecturer then came up to me and share her views about a group of bike gangsters who went around the country helping people. They may appear to be rowdy and do not conform to rules (stupid rules), people do not like them for their gang-ho outlook and so-called arrogance. However, these gangsters are not those “la-sap” (dirty) gangsters who don’t talk sense and just show attitude. They convinced people with action and hence uphold their dignity and command respect from the people. These gangsters don’t play dirty but handle matter in a way of their class.

i strongly feel that in today’s context, gangsters should be given a new definition. And this is how the concept of PopGangster comes about. Understanding the dirty games and politics in various industry, it is good to have Gangsters to seek justifice. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying to break laws. When work needs to get right and people ain’t doing their part, just thinking to live by and take advantage of the system, we need justification ! And if law can’t deal with it, we need PopGangster. Haaaaa …

by the way, for friends who already knows ... u should know; for new friends who don't know, LEAF is aka PopGangster ...

It’s a blessing that to be able to challenge the norm and have a break-through. Not many people dare and not many would bother.

Rules of games in different field of work which are set and deemed correct are sometimes actually set to protect the organiser and employers’ S-O !!!

Sometimes feel stupid man … those people drawing tons of salary are just full of s*** !!! Layman fight so hard until half life … what’s the use?

Employers, especially those from helping relationships, dig out your passion, common sense and do the right work !!!

Was reading the newspapers at a cafe. A 3-letters word caught my attention -- D.I.Y. I'm a D.I.Y myself and that's why I'm ultra-sensitive to this group of words. The small little column stated something which says D.I.Y music video. Oh, so I thought it is another local D.I.Y singer cutting an album, doing MVs for herself. For one moment, I thought it was Genie, but then the pix doesn't look like her. So I thought I shall click into the Stomp website to have a look.

Then, I saw the video from the link below. My heart was like drenched by tons of emo. Guys and Gals, don't give up your dreams and don't procrastinate. Really gotta treasure what you have and don't take things for granted.

Live a LIFE !

"We may be different but all of us stand on a common ground." --- this phrase, according to one of my colleagues, was used by a shop owner to persuade him buy a pair of shoes from the shop.

The recent earthquake that hit Indonesia; heavy rain that has caused massive flooding across countries in Africa; typhoon that slams China into bad shape. So what if we are in Singapore, so what if we are not one of the countries. We are ONE Earth; We are ONE World. Everything that goes, comes back after a round; Everything that comes, goes back the round. Hence, we should not take things for granted and always learn to be thankful for what we have. No one is different though we are different. No one will be spared when nature decides to take back what is supposed to belong to her. So guys and gals, we should be thankful for be able to live a life. Therefore, to learn to live a life, U'll be happier if you learn how to love and stop all the unnecessary fights. (wars lah, office politics lah, revenge lah, complaints lah, work and work and work n no social life and family life lah ... so on so on ... )

The reason is simple - because all of us stand on a common ground.

My colleague bought a pair of shoes for the teaching he got from the shopowner. What about U ?

《蟑螂兄弟的故事》story of the cockroach-brothers

I have sprayed on a cockroach !!!

My house is full of spider web and I let ants crawl freely under my eyes and I try to close my eyes to cockroaches. But today I have killed a cockroach !!! --> I don't normally ... coz life experiences have taught me to treasure other life-forms and live in harmony with them.

2 BIG cockroaches crawled out from nowhere and were playing hide-and-seek in my house. I was in a dilemma ... to spray or not to spray. And I was very unhappy with myself when I went ahead to spray insecticide on them. I told myself be gentle with the spraying and just use it to warn them to get out of my sight. But in the end one went into hiding and the other overturned. My very first instinct when I saw these 2 cockroaches ... they are brothers. It hurts to spray and it pains to see one overturn ... what have I done ... ? Alamak ... I have separated a pair of siblings ...

Whose fault is it?

The cockroach did not choose to be a cockroach. As a human, I have my intelligence to deal with these cockroaches other than spraying and killing them. But I resort to the shortcut. I have made my place a good place for these creatures to creep into and then yet I'm the one who determine their fate. Should I then not be too kind anymore so that I would not create any more of this mess? Maybe I shoud ... I should clean up the place where the ants are, have a spring cleaning and clear all the webs; maintaining a fresh clean environment and moving forward. But some may argue that we could just let the cockroaches exist so long as they do not cross boundary again.

I guess sometimes life is just that. Being too kind creates a bigger mess. Sometimes we must know when kindness is appropriate; if not, the kind one will likely end up being the cruel and evil one. The dark side will never tell what they are up to and their existence really challenges your conscience and value when you decided to fight them for a justice. I strongly believe every mankind exists to do good. But for some who do not understand the meaning of doing good, we shall forgive them with an open heart, guide them, warn them of the consequences. But if they choose to stubbornly continue their old ways, I think we should not do them wrong again.

I will write a song 《蟑螂兄弟的故事》, anyone want to pen the lyrics for me?

Oh yah yah ... the moral of the story is ...

"If the cockroaches want to play hide-and-seek in broad daylight and still survives, then they jolly well keep to their boundary and not stir shit."

3 plus 7 = SUCCESS !!!

Was msn-ing with Tristan 王志文 a few nights a go. Was chatting with his experience going on air fm933 with his music school, Funkie Monkies Pop Music School, as one of the top students (declared by Eric Huang Yun Ren 老師)。 The fm933 program is about songwriting and Tristan was there to share his experience and u know what, in less than a year with the school, he managed to sell a song to my superstar friend Joi 蔡淳佳，and could be 主打。So look out for Tristan's composition in Joi's latest album.

Love Tristan's melody, it always tested my singing ability, too bad the songs written are not tailored for me, I'm just helping him to sing his demos. (Tristan, save a few good songs for me if u could yah... Ha...)

Had a few chance to partner Tristan singing in a pub and it is in him to challenge himself the difficult songs. I guess this character is very much reflected in his songwriting. And have also partnered him in song composing, penning lyrics for his melody. U will never meet such serious writer like him. Every note counts - nice turn or not, flow or not, emotion getting high or not, arrangement ganna or not ... and he spend a lot of effort in getting his demo done. This, I salute him.

Honestly speaking, Tristan, u good lah. After the partnership of second song with you 《全怪我》, I was like ... wow this guy is damn hardworking man, 可塑性 machiam 高。 There is a chinese saying, “ 三分天注定；七分靠打拼”。You have shown it so well. Add oil yah !!!

Mr No Problem ...

A good friend whom I also look up to as mentor, Wu Yu, called 2 days ago. He was EXCITED about his lost homepage. I was like ... huh ... how can someone be so excited about loss of personal thing and somemore still so positive about it and looking forward to move on.

Wu Yu is indeed such as a person who does not take thing as it is in life. Good and bad, I will say. Bad - he will end up thinking too much, and not move on. Good - any little thing could be his inspiration, motivation and new doors to his life. But then, thinking too much is better than not thinking or reflecting on one's life. Nowadays, many of us are so busy earning a living that we almost forget to pause a little while to see what is happening to the original us.

Anyway, I always like Wu Yu's excitement. Coz it is a good demo of one's perseverence and passion for what he really likes. I have been pairing with Wu Yu for nearly a decade in writing songs. He has good ideas for lyrics which never fails to open up more spaces for me when I create the melody. For any melody I compose, he will make sure his lyrics bring out the beauty of the song.

Anyway again, that day he called and he said, "Yet, I lost my homepage ... haaaaa ..." I was like,"Silly Wu Yu, are you right in head?" He explained, he actually gained something from the loss, he was enlighten. It is time to to do something more. He proposed a homepage by US. I will, of course, be the music person; he will be the writing person; and some more and some more ... Then of course, I was my usual self lah when responding to him,"Oh okie ... No Problem..." though I really don't know how it is going to work out to be like. But then I guess that is what the total excitement is about...
