Wow the last update was Aug! Time seems to have stalled here but a lot has indeed happened. The hooray thingy is crazy and I have got a lot of articles to share with you. But my pc crashed and I could not scan time in time to put the articles up. Will backdate when the hooray thingy is over. Meanwhile, lend me your ears to the hooray performance. HOORAY!!!

单单为"乱说无罪，大炮有李"编制音效和填改歌词，都已经让我日夜忙碌了将近两个月。在6月14日中午，我终于松了一口气。李国煌大哥的脱口秀终于大功告成，圆满结束。4天里5场近爆满的show,真的让我体会到何谓台上一分钟，台下十年工。无论评语好坏，大火儿的多少血汗只有当事人能体会。国煌大哥说得对 --- "好的我们感谢您，我们会继续加油；不好的我们一样感谢您，我们会继续进步。"

An Artist Cafe in CBD ...

Look out for J Cafe ... a cafe for the artists just in one little corner of CBD. Though not yet in the full launch of artists' activities, it has kicked start with Chinese Art and is recruiting students for Cartooning Class and the instructor is my cartooning mentor and lyrics for No Problem. If you wanna pick up a good skill in drawing cartoon, act fast !!!

This is a performance all Independent Artiste should take on and showcase their talents. A production by COMPASS (http://www.compass.org.sg) that provides a platform to meet people with common interest, passion and drive. A production that recognises every little effort put in by people who dare to make a difference and contribute to the music scene in Singapore.

The Emcee for the day is Didi-Cazli - he is a pop icon and idol in the Malay music scene. Am flattered with the little surprise he brought me at the performance.

Guess what - his Malay version of JJ Lin's Thousand Years Ago, tops the chart of a Malay radio in Singapore.

So - so... aspiring singer-songwriter, emerging artistes and all Indie artistes, go for it !!!

Being able to be part of Singapore Entertainment Awards 2009 is definitely an important milestone in my life and music career. It teaches me a lot about friendship, about how much could be done if people are willing to work together and about how important support from significant others are so important. These people are our GREATEST awards in life.
She is the BEST award in my life :)

Host for Weddings @ Orchard Parade Hotel, 7 Feb 2009 (Sat) , 7:30pm - 11:00pm

I did not take any photos or videos this time round as my dearest personal assistant was not with me. However, hope the newly-wed could send me a couple of digital copies that their photographer has snapped.

This is the first wedding-hosting job I have ever done as a D.I.Y singer-songwriter. No need for me to sing but just need me to use my best Mandarin to bring fun, happiness, prosperity and forever-love to the wedding dinner taking place on Lunar Year 13th day, 7 Feb 2009. In short 1327.

The couple is really trying to bring prosperity to all of us ... 1327 came out third prize 21 Jan 2009 4D and then first prize and starter on 11 Feb. I would have been a few thousand dollars richer if I have place a bet on it but what is yours is yours, what is not is not. :) Hope some guest would have bet on the number again when they heard me mention the number during the dinner. Haaa ...

Anyway, I would like to wish Jerry and Anne a happy marriage.

The journey has just begun ... have fun and enjoy the process ...

Guest Performer @ RazzlePlay Debut Launch, Singapore Polytechnic Auditorium, 02/02/2009 (Monday), 8:30pm

The Singapore Mandarin INDIE/D.I.Y Music Arena welcomes our new family member - RazzlePlay. RazzlePlay is yet another 100% "Born-in-Singapore, Made-in-Singapore, Use our own pocket money and invest all our effort to do music" INDIE/D.I.Y Music Group.

Was msn-ing Vincent (the band leader) the night before the launch. He was telling the experience of giving out flyers to the public regrading RazzlePlay's launch. Vincent, you have done a great job and that is exactly the true spirit of D.I.Y musician. Most of the time, we are faced with budget constraints and a lot of marketing/publicity/advertising stuff seem to be far beyond our reach. However, do remember that humans are resources too. You have a band of 5 people bringing together different strengths and different networks of friends. Hence I'm sure RazzlePlay is able to do well if all of you continue to be Crazy & DARE-ing. Be humble, keep trying and enjoy the process.

Went for soundcheck in the afternoon and was early 1hr. Was really touched and impressed by these 5 young people. They are a group of quiet gals and boys who are really serious musicians. And I must say that the backstage crews and sound persons from Singapore Polytechnic were doing a good job to deliver their best with what they were equipped with.

After my soundcheck, I have to rush to get my hair done, dress up and "fly" to Orchard Mandarin Meritus for an interview by Brisbane radio station DJ Jiayi at 7:30pm (Will put up later). Thanks Jiayi for able to lead the interview well and I managed to end the interview by 8pm. In no time, I was speeding to Singapore Polytechnic.

Simin called 8:20pm and informed that my turn was coming soon. And I was like ... oh goshhh ... the program was early and luckily I was just about 5 mins away. Found a place, get the car park and I was there backstage 8:30pm, panting.

In no time, it was my turn and I must applause that the turnout was good. RazzlePlay, well done!!! Their hard work really paid off. I knew Vincent was running a fever and then I was told that lead vocal almost couldn't sing if without an injection. And yah the sound and some other stuff might also not be at their best. But still RazzlePlay persisted !!! Great job !!!

It is only through the above obstacles and years of hardwork that RazzlePlay has displayed their resilience.

I was not a cake person seriously. Cake to me was just some water and flour with some creamy stuff, whether it tasted sweet or not, tasted good or not, I did not actually bother too much previously as long as my stomach could be filled.

But I started to pay more attention and began to appreciate the art of Cake a couple of months ago when a good friend/mentor, Chris, recommended me to some designer cakes. And they are really designer cakes because the cakes are made by his graphic designer wife and the cakes are beautifully designed. Therefore, I call them designer cakes and they really look good to eat and the fact is, they really taste good.

While deciding to blog about the cakes, I actually told Chris to pass me the pictures of all the cakes I have ordered. You know what, I have actually ordered 7 cakes from them in less than 3 months’ time. Hey hey …this is no marketing strategy, I went back to them because I find their service good and the designer-turned-cake artist really puts her heart and soul into baking every cake. What you get is what you heard, no gimmicks.

Last week, I wanted to order a birthday cake and she refused to do it for me because she was honest enough to say that there ain’t good durians around this season and the cake will not taste good. I really appreciate her frankness and I was recommended the carrot cake. Believe me, you will enjoy it even more if you have tried to microwave it hot and eat it with ice-cream, it definitely taste better than those you get in the café coz the ingredient is so full and so right.

The durian cake …U really get to eat the durian meat but not some big chunk of durian cream. That is enough for you to want to finish the whole cake lor. And the pandan cake, she really spent hours to brew pandan leave in water, and the flavour you have tasted in the cake is 100% pure pandan leave flavour and not artificial colouring or taste. The chocolate cake is classic and taste heaven when serve chill. Another classic is the tiramisu, hey u really gota try the finger man and the tiramisu is definitely one of the best I have ever tried (oh btw, I’m a tiramisu person). The vanilla cake will be a good choice if you are not adventurous with those exotic flavours. My lady friend finished half the train and she kept the rest for her breakfast. No bluff lah …

Okie okie, just base on what I said is not going to convince because you may say I might be just helping a friend out to put on some good words. Then I really urge you that you must give it a try and she has actually got good number of order each week. Oh by the way, it’s a small household business, got license one. And if you are really curious who this cake artist who has triggered my taste bud for cakes, start your order coming … With each order of the cake, you will get a special price for my album. Oops … haaa !!!
Oh btw, the cake is worth the price and it is not too expensive. Try it and U know what I mean.

Guest Appearance - Bevlyn Concert

During the interview with Lilian and Jeff on 97.2fm, I mentioned there are just too many people to thank. And one of the music friends that I would want to thank a lot is Bevlyn Khoo. We have exchanged many pointers and she has selflessly shared her experience with anyone who is passionate about making good music. Bevlyn has brought with her good energy in spreading the joy of music and the work of being a D.I.Y.

On the 13th Aug, Wednesday, 8pm at University Cultural Center, Bevlyn will be staging her first proper sit-down concert with album sales and autograph session!

"If you miss this, I don’t have any idea when the next one will be, seriously. NUS is my alma mater, and it really feels good to be back there to perform.",said Bevlyn in her blog www.bevlynkhoo.com Bevlyn is ending her publicity for her debut album "Lonely Afternoon" with this concert. So catch her in action before you miss her !!!

And and .. I will be guesting appearing in her concert to showcase "No Probelm" LIVE! for the first time.

NUS is my alma mater as well and University Cultural Center is a place that I have been looking forward to perform in. Hence, thanks Bevlyn for the opportunity.

3 plus 7 = SUCCESS !!!

Was msn-ing with Tristan 王志文 a few nights a go. Was chatting with his experience going on air fm933 with his music school, Funkie Monkies Pop Music School, as one of the top students (declared by Eric Huang Yun Ren 老師)。 The fm933 program is about songwriting and Tristan was there to share his experience and u know what, in less than a year with the school, he managed to sell a song to my superstar friend Joi 蔡淳佳，and could be 主打。So look out for Tristan's composition in Joi's latest album.

Love Tristan's melody, it always tested my singing ability, too bad the songs written are not tailored for me, I'm just helping him to sing his demos. (Tristan, save a few good songs for me if u could yah... Ha...)

Had a few chance to partner Tristan singing in a pub and it is in him to challenge himself the difficult songs. I guess this character is very much reflected in his songwriting. And have also partnered him in song composing, penning lyrics for his melody. U will never meet such serious writer like him. Every note counts - nice turn or not, flow or not, emotion getting high or not, arrangement ganna or not ... and he spend a lot of effort in getting his demo done. This, I salute him.

Honestly speaking, Tristan, u good lah. After the partnership of second song with you 《全怪我》, I was like ... wow this guy is damn hardworking man, 可塑性 machiam 高。 There is a chinese saying, “ 三分天注定；七分靠打拼”。You have shown it so well. Add oil yah !!!

Mr No Problem ...

A good friend whom I also look up to as mentor, Wu Yu, called 2 days ago. He was EXCITED about his lost homepage. I was like ... huh ... how can someone be so excited about loss of personal thing and somemore still so positive about it and looking forward to move on.

Wu Yu is indeed such as a person who does not take thing as it is in life. Good and bad, I will say. Bad - he will end up thinking too much, and not move on. Good - any little thing could be his inspiration, motivation and new doors to his life. But then, thinking too much is better than not thinking or reflecting on one's life. Nowadays, many of us are so busy earning a living that we almost forget to pause a little while to see what is happening to the original us.

Anyway, I always like Wu Yu's excitement. Coz it is a good demo of one's perseverence and passion for what he really likes. I have been pairing with Wu Yu for nearly a decade in writing songs. He has good ideas for lyrics which never fails to open up more spaces for me when I create the melody. For any melody I compose, he will make sure his lyrics bring out the beauty of the song.

Anyway again, that day he called and he said, "Yet, I lost my homepage ... haaaaa ..." I was like,"Silly Wu Yu, are you right in head?" He explained, he actually gained something from the loss, he was enlighten. It is time to to do something more. He proposed a homepage by US. I will, of course, be the music person; he will be the writing person; and some more and some more ... Then of course, I was my usual self lah when responding to him,"Oh okie ... No Problem..." though I really don't know how it is going to work out to be like. But then I guess that is what the total excitement is about...
